Fun and Unique Ways to Engage Students, When student interest begins to dwindle, we frequently grab for the prop box.

We use anything to gain and hold attention, including strange movies, time-consuming materials, and too difficult activities.

Even yet, our students’ pen tricks, doodling, and talks about what happened at recess can’t compare. And there’s a simple reason for this: learners aren’t interested in what they’re learning. We’ve enlisted their help.

That’s why you have the best (and simplest) options for increasing student involvement.

We’ve put together a list of tactics that inspire long-term student engagement without the use of flashy props or hours of post-school preparation.

01 – Fun and Unique Ways to Engage Students Connect Lessons to the Real World

“When am I going to utilize this?” we’ve all heard it before. If you are able to answer it, you will engage kids with the knowledge they understand is essential to their lives outside of school. To ground your teaching in “the real world,” use stories, case studies, and real-life examples from outside the classroom.

02 – Engage with Your Students’ Interests

Find out what engages your students already and incorporate it into the learning process. Using mathematics as an example, students may monitor their progress in a video game for a week. You might also ask your aspiring social media influencers to estimate their Instagram followers.

Knowing what interests your kids does more than keeping them occupied. You’ll also develop significant ties and rapport.

03 – Scaffold Tasks with Checkpoints

Fun and Unique Ways to Engage Students If you give students all of the directions at the beginning of a lesson before letting them go on an activity, they will most certainly get confused and disengaged.

That’s why it’s critical to scaffold larger projects by dividing them down into manageable chunks. You can separate these by brief “checkpoints” of education that refocus and remind students of what they need to do next. They also serve as a periodic wake-up call for students who are prone to getting off track.

04 – Emphasize Discovery

At times, the best thing you can do to increase students’ involvement is to stay out of their way.

Allow kids to explore learning on their terms rather than being spoon-fed. They’ll think critically and creatively and pursue the areas of inquiry that pique their interest.

It is not to say that you should hide beneath the teacher’s desk. Observe your students, pay attention to what they’re saying, and chat to them about it. Rather than instructing them, act as a guide.

05 – Fun and Unique Ways to Engage Students Shake Things Up

Predictability is safe, but it can get tedious after a while. From time to time, mix up your standard teaching tactics with new and innovative exercises. For ideas, talk to other teachers. You’ll not only increase student engagement, but you’ll also show them what it means to take a chance and attempt something new.

It’s also easier to differentiate your instruction if you try out some new pieces of the teacher toolkit. A unique activity or delivery style could be the key to engaging that difficult-to-engage student who has been a thorn in your side all year.
