social media is great for teaching today’s students are more involved in using social media platforms than ever before. Along with them, parents are also connected there. Many people believe that incorporating social media in the classroom can cause distraction than any significant benefit.

However, this is totally inaccurate where teachers are knowledgeable enough about how to use it properly. Many studies showed that teachers hesitate to use social media as an educational technology platform in the classroom.

The main reasons why they are reluctant to use it include they don’t know how to use it while keeping the students focused and what revolution social media can bring into students’ learning. Social media, if used correctly, can make the learning of students not only easy but also enjoyable.

Social media is great for teaching social studies to students in various ways, and among those, here are a few.

Promotion:  Social media is a great platform to showcase students’ work and promote special events and programs. Appreciating the student’s work makes them feel motivated and determined for any activity.

social media is great for teaching & Effective learning:

Social media can be used to share blog posts or articles related to the curriculum. This way, students can learn beyond the prescribed reading, which is only restricted to the curriculum.

Connecting with experts: Apart from connecting with friends and family, social media also offers an invaluable way to communicate with educators and experts. Of course, authors, artists, filmmakers, scientists, and other experts are on social media. They can be a great resource to students to enhance their learning in the related subjects.

Additionally, students get a chance to connect with other students outside of their physical classroom, which encourages interaction and engagement.

Update and progress: However, students use social media for personal use, but under the guidance of a knowledgeable teacher, students get to use it responsibly. It allows students to give live updates and communicate their progress.

Tracking academic work: Social media is regarded as a shop for spontaneous thoughts and complaints about everything, whether its political, public, or students concern; everything is presented on this platform. Social media also offers students to track their academic improvements through social media posts.

Allowing social media in school have been a source of controversy; however, there are many benefits of incorporating social media platforms into a classroom environment. These benefits cannot be neglected. Teachers must be well aware of its pros and cons while incorporating social media subjects into their curriculum to use them wisely.

Instead of enforcing phone-off policies in the classroom, It’s high time to invite social media into the classroom environment to make learning exciting and effective for students. It’s a new and valuable tool to connect with a new idea and stay informed of every event related to the lesson being taught and discussion in class.

As an educator, you must develop creative yet effective ways to use social media in your lesson plans and infuse critical and creative thinking in students beyond any limits.
