Giving students the confidence to take charge of the conference and their own learning can be pretty beneficial.
Make your students’ voices known, regardless of the structure of your conference. Simply ask them to write whatever they think on these topics:
- What is this conference all about?
- What Goals They Have in Life?
- How Do They Define Themselves?

It’s all about planning and preparation when it comes to the parent-teacher meeting! Prepare yourself for anything! Begin by making a folder for each student so that all of their information is in one location.
Conduct some research and identify what information parents desire to see on their child’s report. Then, discuss your own goals for the student and back them up with evidence. Do your homework to discuss what this information means to families!

Don’t forget that, now that virtual meetings are becoming popular, any of the tips above can be done digitally! Google Slides can be used to share ALL of the Parent-Teacher Conference Forms. “Copy” the slides for the number of students you have and call them “Student Name Conference.” Each student will now have a digital folder of their own!
The presentation can be shared with families on any virtual learning platform, via email, or during a Zoom or Teams conference by sharing your screen. If you want to share the presentation after the meeting, I recommend sharing the “View Only” version to preserve all of the data you entered.
