Successful Parents Teacher Meetings are around the corner! Meetings are one of those areas where there might be a lot to do in a small amount of time. That’s why I’ve put together a list of five tips to help you feel more disciplined and prepared for meetings rather than overwhelmed.

Build Relationships from The Start Successful Parents Teacher Meetings:

It may go without saying, but in teaching, relationships are everything! This includes interpersonal interactions, such as those involving family members.

Every student has someone who cares about them. Ensure that a parent-teacher conference isn’t your first point of connection with your students’ families. (Because some families are difficult to contact, this may be beyond your control.)

Successful Parents Teacher Meetings, A few times a year, making an effort to send something positive about each student can go a bit overboard for the student, their family, and you!

Here are some examples of how positive communication can help you create ties with your family:

  • Write a positive email about three different students every Friday to their families.
  • Take a picture of a student receiving a shout-out from a classmate and send it to them.
  • Send a quick message about something you noticed in class that was positive.

It doesn’t have to be challenging to communicate positively! A brief note, email, or phone call can assist you and your students’ families in building a relationship. This can make families feel more comfortable approaching you if their student is having difficulties because they know you’re on their side as well.

So, on your teacher planner, make a communication timetable and get started communicating!

Successful Parents Teacher Meetings Indulge with Students

Every district is different, and some may stipulate that the parent-teacher meeting is only between the parent and the teacher. Have you tried Student-Led Conferences if that isn’t the case?

Giving students the confidence to take charge of the conference and their own learning can be pretty beneficial.

Make your students’ voices known, regardless of the structure of your conference. Simply ask them to write whatever they think on these topics:

  • What is this conference all about?
  • What Goals They Have in Life?
  • How Do They Define Themselves?
  • How Parent-Teacher Conference Affects Their Family Relationships?

Research What Parents Expect from A Parent-Teacher Conference

It’s all about planning and preparation when it comes to the parent-teacher meeting! Prepare yourself for anything! Begin by making a folder for each student so that all of their information is in one location.

Conduct some research and identify what information parents desire to see on their child’s report. Then, discuss your own goals for the student and back them up with evidence. Do your homework to discuss what this information means to families!

Successful Parents Teacher Meetings in Online

Don’t forget that, now that virtual meetings are becoming popular, any of the tips above can be done digitally! Google Slides can be used to share ALL of the Parent-Teacher Conference Forms. “Copy” the slides for the number of students you have and call them “Student Name Conference.” Each student will now have a digital folder of their own!

The presentation can be shared with families on any virtual learning platform, via email, or during a Zoom or Teams conference by sharing your screen. If you want to share the presentation after the meeting, I recommend sharing the “View Only” version to preserve all of the data you entered.

Successful Parents Teacher Meetings Takeaway

So, the Successful Parents Teacher Meetings don’t need to be overwhelming. You can conduct an effective parent-teacher meeting with some organization and preparation to get fruitful results!
